· If your team is
leading towards the end of a game it may be worth playing a ‘possession’
game. By retaining possession of the ball your team is denying the
opposition team the ability to score. An unsuccessful attack by your team
may give the opposition the ball and thereby the ability to score, (e.g. a
blocked shot or a missed shot will lead to possession of the ball going to
the opposition team). · This tactic may force
the opposition to play ‘5 out’ in order to retain possession. By drawing
the opposition players out from defence you may create an opening for your
team to score. ·
Player A retreats and
passes the ball to any unmarked player on his team (e.g. B or C). The ball
is just passed around at the back with no attempt to attack the opposition
goal. Only do this if winning or trying to draw the opposition team from
zone defence.
