Attacking a team defending with 5 out

                       A

·   Player A has possession of the ball but because the opposition team are defending with ‘5 out’ , each player is marked. There is no easy option here. Player A has no unmarked player to pass to.

·   Each player in the team must try to lose the opposition marker in order to get into space and thereby allow player A to pass.

·   Otherwise player A has two options:- 1) to keep possession of the ball or 2) to pass to a marked player.

·        To keep possession of the ball player A must keep the ball on the opposite side of the kayak to the marking player and remember to throw it at least 1 yard every 5 seconds in order to retain legal possession.

·        Player A passes to marked player B.

·        The pass must go either in front of player B or in the water on the opposite side to player B’s marker.

·        Do not pass to player B’s hands if being marked tightly as the marker will be able to tackle player B with the ball in hand. Player B will be unable to perform support strokes in this situation and can be easily hand tackled.

                                                                                                             C

·        Player B tries to lose his marker by using another player’s (C) kayak as a screen.(i.e. passing as close as possible to player C but not leaving enough room for player B’s marker to pass as well.)

·        If Player B succeeds in losing his marker player A should pass to player B

·   Player A is marked on the goal line. All the other team-mates are also marked.

·   Player B is a substitute waiting behind the goal line.

·   Player A passes to player B’s side of the pitch and then substitutes with player B by leaving the pitch (i.e. going behind the goal line).

·   Player B waits for player A to leave the pitch before coming onto the pitch and moving up the pitch with the ball. Player B is now unmarked in possession of the ball.
